When a facility commissions a compressed air audit, the single most important question to ask the auditing firm is deceptively simple: are you ISO 11011 certified?
ISO 11011 is the international standard for compressed air energy audits. Published by the International Organization for Standardization, it specifies the methodology, measurement requirements, reporting format, and minimum competency standards an audit must meet to count as a valid, independent assessment.
The standard matters for three reasons.
It defines what must be measured
A compliant audit is not a walkthrough with a notepad. It requires calibrated instrumentation — flow meters, power analysers, ultrasonic leak detectors, dew-point meters — and specific measurement protocols for each system component. Without the standard, “audit” can mean anything from a quick visual inspection to a full technical assessment. ISO 11011 removes the ambiguity.
It defines what must be reported
The standard specifies the structure of the deliverable: the system baseline, the savings calculations, the measurement methodology, and the assumptions behind every recommendation. A report produced to ISO 11011 is verifiable and reproducible — another certified auditor reviewing the same data should reach equivalent conclusions.
It creates accountability
An auditor working under ISO 11011 cannot recommend an intervention without the measurement data to support it. The standard rules out the speculative savings claims — “you could save up to 40%” — that are common in non-certified assessments.
Why certification matters for ESG reporting
For manufacturers with ESG obligations, certification matters in a different way. Sustainability reports submitted to EU buyers, lenders, or regulators require that the underlying data — the energy baseline, the savings verification — was produced by a credible, independent, standardised process. An ISO 11011 audit provides that credibility. A non-certified assessment does not.
Certification is a commitment, not a label
AirAudit has held ISO 11011 certification throughout our operational history. In 13 years and 250+ audits, we have never completed an engagement without the full measurement protocol — regardless of plant size, industry sector, or client budget.
Certification is not a marketing label. It is a commitment to the methodology. When you commission an ISO 11011 audit, you know exactly what you are getting — and what the numbers in the report actually mean.
AirAudit (Private) Limited is Pakistan’s leading ISO 11011-certified compressed air auditing firm, with 13 years of operational history and 250+ industrial audits completed. We do not sell compressors and do not represent compressor companies.
